“WE SEARCH FOR BEAUTY IN SIMPLICITY”

L´AND aims to integrate architecture, interior design and landscape in order to create an unique atmosphere of sober luxury and tranquility, reflecting the identity of the region.

Five internationally renowned architects sign the projects, giving an unique and distinct personality to each group of villas, with a contemporary architecture that reinterprets the Mediterranean and Roman-style patio houses of Roman and Arab tradition.

Promontório Arquitectos is responsible for the masterplan and coordination of all architectural projects.

They also sign one of the serviced villas nucleus as well as the central nucleus and the cellar.

The remaining serviced villas of L’AND Vineyards are the responsibility of Sergison Bates Architects, from London, João Luís Carrilho da Graça Arquitectos, from Lisbon, Architekturbüro Peter Märkli, from Zurich and José Paulo dos Santos Architect, from Porto.

L’AND residences are developed on a large-scale land, establishing an open and privileged relationship with the rural environment.

MODERN REVISITATION OF PATIO HOUSES

Throughout many different ages and cultures, patios were used for different purposes, but it was in the Greek, Roman and Islamic cultures that they took on their most profound dimension: the power to harmonize the house with its surroundings.

In patio houses, house and patio form an indivisible whole, in which the patio emerges not as an empty space, left after the building work is completed, but rather as a unifying and organizing element for the dynamic of the land itself.

Patios are small private paradises and represent the center of our world. They are “introverted”, intimate spaces, protected places; they are the shell of a house that opens itself up to the exterior.

Patios bring in natural light to the house, open up horizons to form a new relationship with Nature. In large properties, the architecture of L’AND favours the experience of the natural spaces in complete privacy.

The buildings relate to the exterior through their large windows and the patios, allowing you to enjoy the garden, the swimming pool, the niches and the rock gardens.

L´ANDSCAPE

Together with the vineyard, the units also have orange orchards, olive groves and almond trees, which, besides acting as landscaping elements, are also intended to enable the residents to have access to their own produce. L´ANDscape design, comprising both the communal areas and the private areas around each house, creates vineyards, olive groves, orangeries, orchards and oak plantations as a model of global management that ensures the maintenance of spontaneous and natural ground cover for the territory. Much more than recreating a productive landscape around a vineyard, L’AND is a sustainable celebration of the engagement of Nature with life.

L´ANDscape Architecture was done by PROAP, a leading international design practice exclusively dedicated to landscape architecture, founded in 1989 in Lisbon.
